November 2001 to December 2002: unemployed. I was made redundant from Zeus due to cost-cutting.

March 2001 to November 2001: software developer for Zeus Technology (http://www.zeus.com/), working in C++ and Perl on various UNIX platforms. Areas I worked on include:

1995 to February 2001: development engineer/senior development engineer for ElectricMail Ltd (http://www.elmail.co.uk/), Kewill Systems Plc (http://www.kewill.com/) and ultimately NetConnect Ltd (http://www.netconnect.co.uk/) - all the same job, but under different company names, following takeovers. My main areas of responsibility were design, development, maintenance and integration of software, mostly working in C, Perl and Bourne shell. Examples include:

I have experience of using and programming several varieties of UNIX. I'm most familiar with SunOS 5.x (Solaris) and Linux, but also have worked under HP-UX, Digital UNIX, Irix, AIX, Unixware, OpenBSD, FreeBSD and SunOS 4.x.

I'm familiar with C, C++, Perl, Bourne shell, HTML and (more generally) SGML. I also have a little experience of Python, Java, Tcl, Emacs Lisp, Forth, assembly language (68000 and Z80) and SQL.

I'm familiar with a number of internet protocols, including SMTP, POP-3, NNTP, HTTP, FTP, RADIUS, etc, and know CGI well. I've worked on implementations of several of these protocols.

I'm familiar with programs such as GNU Make, GNU C, GDB, M4, Autoconf/Automake/Libtool, Apache, Squid, Emacs, INN, Exim and so on. I have used SCCS, RCS, CVS and Perforce.
